The people at "Make it or Break it" have set up a Twitter account for Anthony. He's at
http://twitter.com/AnthonyStarke
and I'm pretty sure it's him.

My copy of Total Recall has arrived, so now I can get down to watching it a few times and hopefully writing the reel_merlin fic. It's interesting to note that my memory of the film was pretty good and I was a bit appalled to realise how many of the one-liners I can still quote!
Along with my copy of TR, I also bought the first two series of Robin of Sherwood. I was enamoured of this show back in the eighties and watched every episode. Did anyone else (those of you who weren't tiny children :D) watch it? It had all the ingredients to push my buttons - a heavy dose of mythos, lots of sword fights, the sheriff's voice (I could listen to him forever) and a bit of snark to leaven the drama.
What TV did you watch in the 80s? Things I can remember - Blake's 7, endless repeats of Star Trek (TOS), Dr Who, Centennial, Miami Vice, to name but a few...

I haven't forgotten the drabble-meme requests, just got a little side-tracked with life, testing, slave!fic -- you know how it goes. *g*
So, this one's a tiny piece of nonsense for siluria, who asked for NCIS, Gibbs, Tony, the boonies. You've been very patient, hon, hope you enjoy it!
(one caveat -- I haven't seen the episode the prompt refers to, so any actual connection is purely coincidental ;)
( Keep an eye on the possibilites... )
..and sorry, I don't have any NCIS icons so we'll all have to make do with slave!Vin *cough*

It was a burn-the-feet-on-the-sand weekend at the beach this weekend. The weather was hot, hot, hot; the sky was clear and the water calm. It was lovely :)
The brain fuzzies have been back again over the last couple of weeks. So if I've missed commenting on your posts - forgive me?? I seem to be improving again, but still need to go have more blood tests. Not my favourite thing...
I have a question for my Merlin flisters - Since I've signed up for reel_merlin, I'm going to need a beta for my fic. *looks hopeful* Someone to bounce ideas off would be nice too. Anyone up for it? I thought I'd ask here first before posting at merlin_betas. I'm going to write a fic based on Total Recall.
At work we had several visits this week from booksellers. I loooove looking at, and choosing new books. This is one of the best parts of the job :) As well as buying books for work, I ordered a lovely hard cover copy of Connie Willis's new book Blackout!! Eeeeeeeeeee! I love her books and this one is set in her Oxford time travel 'verse that I adore.
If you have never read them - check out 'The Domesday book' and 'To say nothing of the dog'. They're both awesome books and despite being having some of the same characters are totally different in atmostphere.

It's a loose hip joint and a mass pressing on a nerve.
It became inflamed = nasty limp.
He's here now and not walking to bad.
As long as the pills keep working, he should be okay.
He won't be able to chase the birds anymore because he now needs to stay on a lead when walked.
He'll be the dog version of an aging human having to use a walking stick.
But it's all good.

Meme stolen from bookishtype.
Crime novels are my thing, though I'm not so hot on true crime I must admit :)
How many have you read?... reblog with the one's you've read in red (it said red but I couldn't do that, so mine are bolded :D). ( Read more... )

The mass isn't a cancer, but it's also inoperable. He's now on different medication and will go back to the vet in a couple of weeks. It's going to come down to quality of life. If the pills help and he's comfortable then he won't get put down. If the pills aren't a lot of help and he's quality isn't going to be good, then the decision will be made.
This may be goods news ....
or it may be that him getting put down is just delayed by a couple of weeks.
We'll wait and see.

It seems that we may lose another dog tomorrow.
We don't own him, but he lived with us for 3 yrs and I babysit him so often he may as well be ours.
He's been limping for two weeks. His owner took him to the vet who said that he had a mass on his hip. The vet proscribed an anti-infammatory. The mass is now huge. He's going back tomorrow for x-rays. If the vet still thinks it's cancer then he'll get put down there and then.
I fucking hate this shit.
It's different. Losing a dog is different. I don't know why it affects more than it does losing a loved one.
I just hope my medication kicks in and I don't go back into that deep rut that I just started to crawl out of.
The worst thing. It's going to bring it all back. Losing my own dog, my best friend, my best bud. I still miss her like crazy and after nearly 8 months it still hurts.

I really love Steve Schwartz - for those of you who remember, several posts ago, I linked to an entry he did in his blog called "No One Knows What the F*** They're Doing (or Three Types of Knowledge)" which is awesome. Well - he's written another wonderful entry, called "Unless You're Changing It, Quit Your Bitchin'" - a must for those of us who seem to attract people who aren't happy with their lives - or who periodically find ourselves bitchin'. Having made a few changes back in December/January, I can attest to the fact that he's right - change can be good. I've been thinking about making a few more as of late, too - hey, no need to stop a good thing!

It seems I was also nomniated in the Best New Writer category but they forgot to add me (and a few others) to the list.
Remember, if you want to vote for little ol' me (EgorStandish) go here at Psychfic.com and vote in the following categories:
- Best New Writer
- Best Short
- SBPD Award
- Best Banter
- Most Psych-Like
- Most Wanted WIP
Wow. That's six categories. I'm stunned and grateful. And if you do vote - thank you very many!

Escapade 20 was probably my favorite Escapade in the last 7 or 8 years. I'm not sure what made it different, except that we actually had regular team meetings and wisely (finally!) enslaved--er, invited--someone to answer the email on a regular basis. (Dail--Ashlyn--is a godsend, in case people didn't notice the phenomenal difference in the con's responsiveness this year. She replied most of the time within minutes or a couple of hours of people sending in emails asking for information, clarification, or follow-up. If she didn't know, she responded and said *that*, then followed up with us and the person asking the questions. THANK YOU DAIL, from the bottom of my heart.)
But much more than doing a more responsible job of planning and ramping up the con--or maybe because of it--we were so excited about it this year. I was excited as we counted down the days, excited to hear about each friend old and new who had registered, and excited about little things like the program book covers and the fact that we were hitting two decades of Escapades. I was entertained by how easy ramp-up was (due to the decades of experience putting on events coupled with actually keeping to our ramp-up schedules), and I loved Jenn very much when she had a melt-down basically because she couldn't find anything to do the Tuesday before the con. *g*
Then we actually *got there* and the weekend was wonderful. We were relatively relaxed, and we enjoyed seeing people we've known for decades (hi Sandy, Rache, Tina, Terry, Nicole, Stranger, Jo, Kim, Melina, Snow, Stacy, Liz, Bonnie, Kris, Vonne, Constance, Cynthia, Bientot, Elke, Henry, and everyone I'm forgetting at the moment) and meeting people who we'd never met before (Hi PrincessofG, Daffy, Jay!). I enjoyed having more vid shows again; I commiserated with people who can't figure out how to cope with the party's ambient noise; I was delighted with the way people got into the various games, particularly the scavenger hunt and Wheel of Fandom. I had fun in most of the panels I was in (even as I noticed myself being quite self-righteously enfranchised and mouthy *g*), and very much appreciated our male minority and what they offer our community.
Burn Notice rules (and someday more people will agree with me on that). White Collar--I'm finally intrigued. Threesomes as a way of fictional life? *Totally* can see that.
I loved the walks on the beachfront promenade, and the hotel's delicious restaurant; the proximity to Starbucks and the Farmer's Market and taking a trip there with KadyMae. I loved that Shoshanna is nowhere near the most outrageous dresser at the art auction anymore. And I loved my vast pleasure in our fannish community. Since that was a big theme for me this year, it was way cool to see it and share in it.
Special thanks to Katharine for thinking up the roast of the Jennifer, and to Sandy for keeping the organizational ball rolling; Jenn was extremely touched. And thanks to Jenn herself for publicly stating, for the record, that the handcuffs *were not mine*. (She really isn't as nice as she used to be, which makes her all the nicer, for me.)
::happy sigh:: Charlotte
